There's things to be found here, but it's not a nice place. You won't be tempted to hang around a few extra days. :D

i grew up thinking rather bad things about Houston. Heck, i thought that about Texas in general thinking it was about rednecks, cowboy boots, and grazeland. I was actually surprised when i visited Houston. It's actually a big city with alot of opportunity. There was a different mix of races and restaurants. Very diverse and exciting. To the poster who said that Houston doesn't have class, try the Uptown/Galleria area where the median cost of living is even higher than Beverly Hills, CA. Not to mention the Houston Galleria, which is surrounded by many upscale stores. The Galleria is the 5th largest shopping complex in the nation. People do unfairly give Houston a bum rap when it has just about everything you'd expect to see in any other major city.

Houston is my favorite place to visit when i'm in Texas. to say that houston doesn't have any history or beauty is just like saying Houston doesn't have a skyline. The many bayous (i.e. Buffalo Bayou), parks, bay areas, and greenspace are plentiful beautiful areas in Houston. If you want history, visit the Houston Heights, The Wards, The Historic District. If someone wants to give it a 10, that doesn't make it any less realistic than a small-minded person who gives it a 1. Houston is on the rise. I really think people who don't jack about the city need to stop dogging it.

I'm giving Houston all 1s, because A.)this site is about roadtrips not growing up/living in a city. B.)There is a battle of ratings between uncultured Houstonians(all 10s) and visitors(honest ratings). C.) While Houston may offer the greatest cul-de-sac living and SUV driving in the world, it has little to offer visitors in the way of history, beauty, class, or entertainment.

My advice to anyone visting...Don't. My advice to anyone living there...Get out while you can! I wasted the first 28 years of my life sweating and/or driving in Houston. I never realized how bad of a city Houston was until I left.

not a bad place. I'd probably say its the most exciting city in Texas. Very cosmopolitan and you can expect to see just about every race or color around. Kemah boardwalk in the Clear lake area is just gorgeous. You can ride boats and things like that. something you can't do in alot of cities.

cool city. I like Houston because it feels like 5 different cities wrapped up into 1. It has multiple kickass skylines: Downtown, Uptown, Med Cntr, Greenway. Everywhere you go in the city, there's something going on. Much better than Dallas/Ft Worth area in terms of excitement and things to do. Only thing i don't like is the lack of transportation options. A car is your best friend in this city! But for amentities: Check out the musuems, Theatre, Downtown Main Street at night, Richmond/Westheimer Strips, and etc. Houston definitely hit the spot when i visited Texas.

The population statistics are misleading, Houston doesn't even rank in the top ten for metro areas. It just has giant city limits like Atlanta, Phoenix, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, etc.. The weather is worse than Vietnam and the city looks like a giant suburb with a few skyscrapers thrown in. I would give Houston negative points if possible. The worst city ever.

i enjoyed my visit to houston, it seems like a nice city. i was only there a weekend and didnt have the chance to see it all. but what i did see i didnt like. a car got broken into at the hotel we stayed at. the hallway smelled of piss. i did stay at chain hotel. it was cool to drive by the astro dome and all the new stadiums. next time i want to go to nasa back down the museum district. also near humble tx, i drove past the "tree of love" next time i will make it a point to stop.

as a houstonian that's traveled to quite a few places, im goanna have to disagree on many of the reviews on here. houston itself dosent have much to offer, but we do offer some of the best, most authentic foods you can find anywhere because its such a diverse city. houston offers a great night life/scene if you know where to look. houston has two great sports teams (i.e. astros & rockets) and there are good luxurious hotels. the people here are friendly for the most part. the only flaws are that you need a car to get just about anywhere, it can get very hot and humid(and cold too) and dosent offer much. oh and Go Longhorns Texas #1 or 4 haha
